Richard C. Read, 93, of Mahaffey, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.

Mr. Read was born March 8, 1919, in Kermoore, a son of the late George Read and Julia (McCracken) Read.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

Nov. 11, 1983, he married Donna R. (Kuntz) Read, who survives, of Mahaffey.

He was a credit manager and salesman for B F Goodrich Tires (L F & J B Beard and Cook Inc.) for many years before retiring.

He was a member of the Mahaffey Alliance Church.

He served many years as a Deacon in the Baptist Church in Curwensville.

In addition to his wife, Donna, surviving relatives include a son, Wayne R. Read and wife Cheryl of New Castle; a daughter, Joan S. Curry and husband Melvin of Curwensville; a stepson, Nathan Strong of Fenelton; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Bender and husband Matthew of Friedens; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois (Johnston) Read; two brothers, Seth Read and Eldon Read; and four sisters, Diantha Graham, Blanche Spencer, Dortha Thompson and Sylvia Read.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Waldron Funeral Home in Mahaffey.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at the Mahaffey Alliance Church with Pastor Myron Wattenphul officiating.

Interment is private.
