Richard B. Elkin, 87

Richard B. Elkin, 87, Punxsutawney, died Friday Jan. 20, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Oct. 14, 1924, in West Mahoning Township, Indiana County, the son of the late Duff and Nellie (Marshall) Elkin.

June 26, 1948, he married Kathryn (Nichol) Elkin, who preceded him in death Oct. 17, 1978.

Dec. 8, 1979, he married Ruth (Kight) Elkin, who survives.

Mr. Elkin was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church of Trade City, where he was a Sunday School Teacher.

He loved gardening and traveling.

He was a farmer and a co-owner of Little Mahoning Pipeline Company, Master Line Service, Inc.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include son Rev. Kenneth Elkin and wife Donna of Williamsport, and Harold Elkin and wife Barbara of Punxsutawney; daughter Eileen Kolodick and husband Richard of Smicksburg, daughter Carolyn Dixon and husband John of Kittanning, Kathy Trayer and husband Steve of Mayport, Kim LaBelle and husband Wayne of Punxsutawney, Kevin Kight of Punxsutawney; two brothers, Emory Elkin of Smicksburg and David Elkin of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Jane Altman of Findley, Ohio, Rosetta Day of Florida, and Sally Wadding of Dayton; numerous nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Trade City with the Rev. Maureen Seifried officiating.

Friends will be received prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be at Round Top Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 27552 Route 954 Highway North, Smicksburg, Pa. 16256.
