Richard “Decent” Francis Havrilla, 58

Richard “Decent” Francis Havrilla, 58, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born May 30, 1952, in Punxsutawney, a son of Eleanor “Ellie” Mary (Pawhutsky) Havrilla, who she survives, and the late Richard Carl Havrilla.

Mr. Havrilla had a passion for life and a love for music. He played bass guitar in various local bands such as The Reason Why, The Worthy Generation, Tyme, Kaos and most recently G3. He liked to help other people, and had played guitar in charity benefits. He was deeply touched when friends organized a benefit on his behalf. 

Mr. Havrilla was a people-person, and his friends meant a lot to him.

He loved his family, nature, hunting, gardening, cooking and baking.  He was a perfectionist at everything he did, and he also enjoyed watching the Steelers.

Mr. Havrilla was a carpenter and electrician by trade.

In addition to his mother, surviving relatives include four sisters, Annette Caldwell and husband Michael of Kittanning, Lisa Matts and husband Ed of Punxsutawney, Rita Jennings and husband Roger of West Mifflin, and Tina Kuntz and husband Rich of Punxsutawney; three brothers, Dave Havrilla and wife Shawnee of Porter, Frank Havrilla of Stump Creek, and Daniel Havrilla and wife Heather of Punxsutawney; a beloved aunt that was like a second mother, Marge Kippert of Rochester Mills, Aunt Dot Mason of Maryland, and Aunt Margie Borza of VIrginia; a niece, Alexia Matts; and four nephews, Jordan Jennings, Austin Sabatucci, Carter Kuntz and Mason Havrilla.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Big Run. 

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
