Reynoldsville man, 37, dies in wreck

April 27, 2014

HENDERSON TOWNSHIP — A 37-year-old Reynoldsville man died following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 2:35 a.m. Saturday along Route 119, near Hemlock Road, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police.

Ronald Leland McCracken was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder.

Police said the crash occurred as McCracken was traveling north on Route 119, and Gail Marie Weinzierl, 54, Punxsutawney, was traveling south.

According to police, as McCracken crested a hill and started to negotiate a right curve in the road, his tan Chevrolet Malibu traveled across the roadway into the south lane of travel.

Weinzierl observed the Malibu coming toward her, so she moved her 2004 Chevrolet K1500 to the right, against the embankment along the west berm.

The left side of the Malibu sideswiped the left side of Weinzierl's vehicle and continued north, before traveling off the west edge of the road. Police said the Malibu then impacted a large tree located 6 feet west of Route 119.

After impact, the Malibu spun in a counterclockwise direction, coming to final rest facing west on the south lane of Route 119.

Police said Weinzierl was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Her vehicle sustained minor damage. The Malibu sustained severe damage.

The Sykesville VFD, Big Run VFD and Brosius Towing assisted at the scene.
