Rev. Richard C. Sharp, 79

Rev. Richard C. Sharp, 79, of Boiling Springs, S.C., went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 18, 2013.

A native of Aiken County, S.C., he was the loving husband of Esta K. Sharp and the son of the late William A. Sharp and Bessie Jones Sharp.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree as a physician’s assistant in the United States Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after serving 22 years.

He then obtained his master’s degree in Divinity with Christian Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, N.C.

He was a retired pastor who was a member of the North Carolina Conference and was associated with New Beginnings United Methodist Church of Boiling Springs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Peri L. Long and husband J. Craig Long of Home, Pa.; two step-children, Craig E. Hewitt and Cherlynn K. Hewitt, both of Spartanburg, S.C.; a sister, Joyce Braley of Aiken, S.C.; three grandchildren, Shelley Ann, Jamie R. Long and Lauren (Mike) Pardee; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul A. Sharp; three brothers, Albert, William O. and Rufus Levi Sharp; two sisters, Lillie Whitehurst and Grace Sharp; and his brother-in-law, Timothy Braley.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the New Beginnings United Methodist Church of Boiling Springs.

A celebration of life memorial service will immediately follow in New Beginnings United Methodist Church at 3 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Smith, Pastor Bobby Gilbert and Rev. Ken Owens officiating with military honors following the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Eggers Funeral Home, Boiling Springs, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Beginnings United Methodist Church building fund, 210 Rainbow Lake Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
