Rev. John N. Kunselman, 77
Rev. John N. Kunselman, 77, of Youngsville and formerly of Punxsutawney, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, April 23, 2014.
He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Elbon, Pa.
Rev. Kunselman attended God's Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating in 1960.
In the summer of 1959, he spent two months in Cuba doing missionary work with the Rev. and Mrs. Shreeve.
He began his ministry at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Springcreek in 1960, serving there until 1967.
He then served the Brown Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church from 1967-1974, the Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church in Stoneboro, Pa., from 1974–1979, the Wesleyan Methodist Smithport Church from 1979–1991 in Glen Campbell, Pa., and from 1991–1994, he served the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Greenville, Pa., at which time he went back to serve the Brown Hill Church until 2004.
In 2004, he served the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Sagamore, Pa., retiring in 2008 from the ministry.
John was an avid hunter and enjoyed raising beagles for hunting dogs.
He loved bird watching and playing baseball with neighborhood children and his family, attending school functions and picnics and spending time with his family.
His real passion was for preaching and sharing the gospel, singing and inviting people to church. He really loved Christmas and Christmas music. He never knew a stranger.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Hazeltine Kunselman, whom he married at the Pittsfield Wesleyan Methodist church in 1960; a son, Stephen (Amy) D. Kunselman of Mahaffey, Pa.; a daughter, Esther (Pastor Barry)
Sweitzer of Summerfield, Fla.; a son, James (Lydia) Kunselman of Salem, Ohio; a daughter, Sarah (Dan) Klenck of Warren, Pa.; a son-in-law, Carl Delzell of Barstow, Calif.; a sister, Ruth (Charles, Jr.) Boozer of Punxsutawney; a sister, Janice Filler of Long Beach, Calif,; a sister, Rosella (Mike) Geer of Brookville; a brother-in-law, Dean Bell of New Bethlehem, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Frank Manus of California; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla Delzell; two sisters, Annamae Bell and Darlene Manus; and a brother-in-law, Wesley Filler.
Friends will be received at McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc., 54 West Main Street, Youngsville, Pa., from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, and also on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Pittsfield Wesleyan Methodist Church from noon to 2 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be held at the church, with the Rev. William Cope of Salem, Ohio, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ed Overdorff, pastor.
Interment will follow and will be private in Riverside Cemetery in Pittsfield.
