May 9, 2011

BROOKVILLE — The grandmother of a U.S. Marine and graduate of Brookville Junior-Senior High School said Monday that he is undergoing treatment after being wounded in Afghanistan.

Ryan Blochberger, 20, of Brookville, was wounded while serving in Afghanistan, according to his grandmother, Nancy Blochberger, also of Brookville.

She said following the incident, her grandson was transported to Germany, where he underwent two surgeries. He is scheduled to be transported to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

Nancy Blochberger reported that the most recent status report she received was that Ryan had movement in his arms and his legs, and he was able to recognize and respond to the people communicating with him. She declined to provide further details.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense said it cannot report on the condition of wounded soldiers, while a spokesperson for the Fourth U.S. Marine Corps was unable to report on the situation.
