Reed (Pete) Russell Rhodes, 86

Reed (Pete) Russell Rhodes, 86, of Brookville, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Brookville Hospital.

He was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Tionesta, Pa., a son of the late Henry S. Rhodes and Evelyn Thompson Rhodes.

On May 22, 1947, he married the late Kathleen B. Wile.

Pete was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.

He worked as a salesman for Hiland Thompson’s Wholesale Dry Good and Clothing, as partner in Emery’s Tin Shop of Brookville, and for 17 years at DeMans Sporting Goods, as clerk and then newsroom manager.

Pete was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brookville and enjoyed spending time with his family, working with wood and traveling.

He served on the Laurel Board for 17 years, was past master at Olive Temple Lodge No. 557 and was a charter member of the Jefferson County Tourist Agency.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Johnston of Butler and Karen Caylor and husband Rodney of Sprankle Mills; five grandchildren, Sam Menchyk and wife Jane of Pittsburgh, Amanda Tomer and husband Scott of Painesville, Ohio, Amy Kelley and husband Tom of Pittsburgh, Abby Kengersky of Punxsutawney, and Adam Caylor and wife Leslie of Sprankle Mills; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, William Hoolver and Gayland Rhodes; and one sister, Wilda Rhodes.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Sharon L. Schwab officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Pete’s memory to the Pinecreek Township Volunteer Fire Department, 18656 Rt. 322, Brookville, PA 15825.
