Raymond "Bud" Carl Steele, 85

Raymond "Bud" Carl Steele, 85, Smicksburg, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, while recovering from prolonged surgical problems in the intensive care unit of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 14, 1952, in South Mahoning Township, a son of the late Alvord and Irene (Johnston) Steele.

June 12, 1948, he married Helen (Pearce) Steele, his wife of 49 years, who preceded him in death in March 1998.

Mr. Steele was a long-time member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, located in Trade City.

He was employed by the McCreary Tire & Rubber Company until his retirement in 1980. His interests included working around his home, bowling and playing cards every Thursday in Punxsutawney with his friends.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, M. Diane (Steele) Stewart and husband Craig of Creekside; six grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart-James of Creekside, Christine Stewart-Foehrenbach and husband Jason of Indiana, Brenda Stewart-Bezilla and husband Brett of Indiana, Carl Gromley of Indiana, and Ryan and Leann Gromley of Smicksburg; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Nicole and Nathaniel McIlwain, and Kolton and Gavin Foehrenbach; four brothers, Melvin Bruce and wife Sara Mae of Dayton, Harold Blaine and wife Betty Jean of Indiana, Dean and wife Marsha of Big Run, and Roger and wife May Louise of Punxsutawney; two sisters, Myrna Marshall of Smicksburg and Donna Daughtery and husband Eugene of Erie; a son-in-law, Thomas Gromley of Smicksburg; a sister-in-law, Floy Steele of Indiana; a brother-in-law, Richard Malcolm and wife Marsha of Indiana; a former sister-in-law, Gladys Foltz of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Rae Steele-Gromley, who passed away in February 1995; an infant sister, Helen; three sisters, Lula Malcolm, Evelyn Lundstrom and Martha Anderson; and a brother, Earl.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana. An additional hour of viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Maureen Seifried officiating.

Interment will follow at the Round Top Cemetery.
