Raymond “Junior” Shank, Jr., 76

Raymond “Junior” Shank, Jr., 76, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at home.

He was born Aug. 29, 1936, in Indiana County, a son of the late Charles and Edna Mae (Wright) Shank.

Mary Katharyn “Kate” Patterson has been his life partner for the past 42 years.

Mr. Shank worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and as a coal miner.

He was a member of the American Legion in Rossiter and Punxsutawney, the Punxsutawney Eagles and St. Joe’s Club in DeLancey.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved his dog, Brownie.

In addition to Kate, he is survived by six sons, John Shank of Alaska, Randy Shank of DeLancey, Ted Shank, Michael Shank and Christy Gerald of Erie, Jamie Shank and Charles Patterson; three daughters, Robin Mitchell, Susan Clark, and Tammy Hawk and husband Don, all of Punxsutawney; 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Glen and Scott Shank; a brother, Richard Shank; and a grandson, Buddy Ray Shank.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Clifford Vos.
