CLARION — When Brookville's Zane Hackett attacked the rim during the District IX Class AA title game at Clarion University, he was cheered on by students chanting "Bonesaw!" and holding fake cardboard saws.

Hackett used his six-foot, six-inch frame to challenge Moniteau physically inside, scoring 20 points to help Brookville (22-2) win its second consecutive district championship, 58-49.

"It felt great. Everything was going in. We came out and started with a lot of intensity," Hackett said. "They played hard the whole game, and we were able to match what they were doing."

Brookville started the game on a 7-0 run and never allowed Moniteau to take the lead. Raiders head coach Bud Baughman said this was one of the best games they've played all season.

"We talked before the game about coming out with a lot of intensity," Baughman said. "I think we did that. I thought we passed the ball well and worked as a team well."

Brookville worked hard in practice all week preparing to defend career 1,000-point scorers Kyle Armagost and Zach Sloan. Aramagost finished with 22 points, and Sloan had 10.

"That's what we worked on the majority of the week was shutting those two kids down," Baughman said. "I never felt comfortable with the lead until the last few minutes. The assistant coaches were more comfortable with the lead than I was. Some of those shots they were hitting at the end of the game were unbelievable."

Senior guard Dan Ion, who finished with 11 points, was a starter on last year's team and said winning this title means a lot.

"I think we played a tougher team (last year). Moniteau lost a lot of good shooters last year, but you still have to respect them a lot," Ion said. "They have two good guys who can shoot the ball well. Aramagost got to us, and Sloan did a good job, too."
