PUNXSUTAWNEY – When you don't play your best the outcome is not usually good. The Punxsy boys' soccer team found this scenario out on Thursday afternoon when they were outplayed by Brookville in a 2-1 home loss.

"They wanted it more than we did," said frankly Chucks' coach Phil Shenkle. "You can't have one team want it and the other not or you lose."

Tied 1-1 for more than 41 minutes, the Raiders' Leland Mowery took a ball hit to the far right flat. With a defender in front of him, Mowery unleashed a 25-yard hooking shot that found its way into the upper left corner of the goal for the 2-1 Brookville lead at 57:03.

With 10:33 left, Punxsy's Trevor Peace booted a free kick but teammate Kevin Hughes' attempted header went off to the left side of goal.

The Chucks had two more potential game-tying scoring chances in the final 2:18. On a corner kick, Tanner Evans received a kick by a Raider defender, who tried to kick it away to the back of the Chucks' defense. Centerback Mike Pascuzzo took the kicked ball and tried to answer with his own 35-yard booming shot, which Brookville goalie Taylor Cudworth snatched, and Punxsy's hopes to tie the game vanished out of the air to keep the soon-after final at 2-1.

"We just had nothing. We didn't have it in our legs or in any way," concluded Shenkle.

Five minutes into the contest, Ryan Presloid took a Ty Zimmerman pass in the six-yard box, dribbled a couple times and fired the ball into the net for a 1-0 Punxsy lead.

At 25:52, Mowery booted a shot that hit off a Chucks' defender and into the home net to tie the contest, 1-1.

Punxsy outshot Brookville in each half and for the game at 10-7.

The Chucks will be off until hosting the Crusaders of Elk County next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
