YOUNG TOWNSHIP — Two Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police cars sustained heavy damage after being struck by a fleeing vehicle during a pursuit at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 310 in Young Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a PT Cruiser driven by Douglas Bryan Oharah, 41, Reynoldsville, was traveling north on Route 119 approximately one mile south of Punxsutawney Borough when a state trooper attempted to stop him for a traffic violation.

Police said Oharah refused to stop and a pursuit ensued which traveled through Punxsutawney Borough causing motorists to take evasive action to avoid being struck.

According to police, Oharah traveled onto Route 310 and as he approached Anita he struck two state police vehicles with his vehicle, which caused disabling damage to all three vehicles.

Police said Oharah was charged with 12 felony counts of aggravated assault, three misdemeanor counts of simple assault, three misdemeanor accounts of recklessly endangering another person, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and numerous summary traffic violations.

Oharah is currently in the Jefferson County Jail pending arraignment.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Punxsutawney Fire Department and McCalmont Township Volunteer Fire Company and Jefferson County EMS.
