Kaleb Young

WILKES-BARRE — Two of Punxsutawney's three wrestlers are still competing after Day One of the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship Tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.

Kaleb Young, a state runner-up the past two years, has once again advanced to the championship semifinals after a 2-0 day Friday.

Troy Peace won his first two bouts before a loss dropped him to the consolation bracket, while Josh Schuckers lost both of his matches Friday and has been eliminated.

All three of Punxsy's wrestlers are competing in the 13- and 14-year-old age division.

Young, a 102-pounder, won his first bout by a 12-0 major decision over Waynesburg's Terry Victor after receiving a first-round bye due to winning the Area V Championship.

His second match was much closer. Young bested Canon McMillan's Brendan Price, 5-2, to advance to the championship semifinals, which begin at 12:20 p.m. today.

If Young wins in the semifinals, he will wrestle again in the final at 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Peace, who didn't receive a first-round bye, won his first bout in the pigtail round with a 36-second fall over Belle Vernon's Roger Durka. The 212-pounder then advanced to the quarterfinals when he surpassed Connellsville's Gunnar Lynch by forfeit.

Peace's only loss Friday was a 4-1 decision to Sharpsville's Jacob Llewellyn. His next bout takes place at 11 a.m. today against either Central Mountain's Bryce Hanley or Curwensville's Ricky Magnuson in the third consolation round. Those two face off in the second consolation round at 9:15 a.m. today.

Schuckers went 0-2 Friday, losing to South Park's Jacob Wetzel, 9-1, and Sharpsville's Christopher Enos, 3-2.
