DuBOIS – After the tournament was pushed back a day, Punxsy's Amber Ward captured second place in the District IX girls' tennis singles championship held Wednesday in DuBois.

Both Ward and fellow senior Lauren Wolfe had solid outings in the singles playoffs.

In the first round, Ward enjoyed a bye, while Wolfe recorded an impressive 10-0 shut out of Bradford's Hannah Burgoon.

For her first court action in the semi-finals, Ward defeated DuBois' Kristen Adamson in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2.

DuBois saw its other singles entry, Natalie Newcamp, prevail over Wolfe, 1-6 and 2-6, in the other semi-final.

Ward and Newcamp moved onto the finals. Ward played well but fell by the same score she won by in the semis, 1-6 and 2-6, to Newcamp.

The Lady Chucks team will return to action today at Elk County Catholic starting at 3:30 p.m.
