Punxsy repeats as D-IX girls' golf champions

BROOKVILLE — One of the Allegheny Mountain League's top teams all season, Punxsy continued to show it Monday by repeating as the District IX AAA girls' golf champions. The Lady Chucks claimed their second-straight title by 11 strokes, 466-477, over the Lady Owls of Bradford at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville.

"Overall, I'm proud of all the girls today," exclaimed Punxsy coach Kasey Dale. "They worked hard to get to districts, and they accomplished their goal that was set at the start of the season."

Bradford's Erin Pecora ran away with the individual AAA championship, with an 18-hole round of 84. But Punxsy had the team depth on its side by having the next three lowest scoring golfers.

Lauren Giavedoni led the way for Punxsy, posting a team-best 99 on the day.

"There were seven girls today that broke 100, and Lauren was able to be a part of that," said Dale. "She was able to get a good momentum going on the back nine and ended up shooting a great 18-hole round of 99."

Caroline Dunkel missed having her own sub-100 score by just five strokes with a quality round of 104.

"Caroline was able to put together another great round. She did a good job of just playing her game and gave us another consistent score," added Dale.

Audrianna Delacour completed the top three Lady Chucks by posting a 118.

The Lady Owls had their other three scorers finish next in Sam Stauffer (124), Skylar Snyder (132) and Kate Colella (137).

Sarah London wrapped up the Punxsy contingent with her 145, which was good enough to help the team finish 11 strokes ahead of Bradford.

"I would like to congratulate Brookville on capturing the AA team title with some outstanding district play," pointed out the Lady Chucks coach. "We head back to Brookville tomorrow, weather permitting, and end the season on Thursday in Brockway."
