BROCKWAY — Punxsy pitchers Andrew Britton and Ethan Blose threw a combined one-hitter, and Punxsy received an offensive spark from Derek Huey, who was 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and six RBIs, to defeat Brockway, 10-0, in four innings in Minor League baseball All-Star action Thursday at Brockway.
Brockway was eliminated from the tournament with the loss, and Punxsy will play St. Marys at 6 p.m. tonight in St. Marys.
Tonight's game will be a rematch from the tournament's first round, a game Punxsy lost, 10-4, at home.
Punxsy manager Eric Britton was pleased with the way his team played, especially with runners on base.
"Some of the kids came in with some clutch hits," he said. "We had lots of base runners, and we scored some runs when we had to."
Punxsy won the coin toss to determine who would be the home team, and Andrew Britton made quick work of Brockway in the top of the first.
Punxsy's bats went to work in the first inning, when Dylan Ishman reached on an error and Britton singled, putting two men on base.
Austin Ewing hit a two-run single, but was stranded at first as Brockway pitcher Owen Dandoy struck out the next three batters he faced.
Punxsy was retired in order in the bottom of the second, making it six straight batters he retired.
Brockway was unable to take advantage of the momentum swing during its half of the third, though.
Manager Britton was pleased with Britton's pitching performance, but he brought in Blose in the third inning to relieve him.
"We just wanted to get Ethan some work," he said. "He threw well all regular season, and we wanted to give him a shot.
"He came in, threw hard and threw strikes. That's all we could ask for."
Blose struck out the side in order in the third inning.
Punxsy's bats came back to life in the third inning when Ishman reached on an error again, and Willie Hoover was walked.
Dallas Bond reached on an error, and Ishman scored.
Huey then cleared the bases on an inside-the-park home run to the left-center field gap for his first three RBIs of the evening.
Although it was unable to manage any hits against Blose, Brockway had two base runners in the fourth inning on two fielding errors by Punxsy.
Blose struck out the final two batters to retire the side with no damage done in the runs column, though.
Dandoy walked Punxsy leadoff hitter Cameron Smith in the fourth and was relieved by Matthew Holt at that point.
Ishman singled off Holt to put runners on first and second, and Hoover delivered with an RBI single that scored Ishman.
Bond walked to load the bases, and Huey cleared them with a three-run triple, which ended the game via the 10-run rule.
Manager Britton was especially impressed by the performance of two of his hitters.
"Huey hit the ball really hard tonight. He had two solid hits that cleared the bases for us. Those were really critical plays," he said. "And Ewing had a really solid hit that got us on the board early."
Ishman also scored two runs, and Hoover scored two runs and added an RBI.View more articles in:
