PUNXSUTAWNEY – The Punxsy middle school cross country runners have been showing great progress this fall.

The young harriers had two runners, Brady Young and Alexis Vite, in the top 10 at last Saturday's Ridgway Invitational before closing the home slate with a good showing Tuesday afternoon.

Last weekend on the boys' side, Young ran to a sixth place finish on the 1.7-mile middle school course. His time of 10:17 was fast enough to earn him one of the T-shirts given to the top 10 finishers.

In the same race for the girls, Vite claimed the last T-shirt eligible finish by taking 10th in a time of 12:24.

Punxsy had three other boys run at Ridgway. Austin McKendree ran under 11 minutes (10:55) for 16th place in the 52-runner field. Alex Eberhart was not far behind in 23rd (11:26). Jake Dinger completed the runners in 46th (13:26).

The Lady Chucks had five other Saturday runners with two more in the top 20. Isabel Hackenberry captured 15th (12:48) and Ashley Vite ran 19th (13:04).

Claira Stephens was just outside of the top 20 in 22nd (13:20). The other three Punxsy girls were Elia Gaston 29th (14:10), Caitlyn Rodgers 32nd (14:21) and Dureena Pierce 37th (15:35).

On Tuesday, the middle school team completed the home cross country schedule against both Ridgway and Brockway.

Young and McKendree were the top Chucks on the boys side again. Young was second (12:32), eight seconds behind the race winner from Ridgway — Aaron Shilk.

McKendree was third on the 1.9-mile course in 12:49 while Eberhart came across the finish line in seventh (14:04).

Steven Detrie and Dinger came across within a second of each other in 10th (15:28) and 11th (15:29).

Brady Snyder completed the course next in 15:48 for 12th while Thomas Barrick ran a 17:18 for 15th.

The Vite sisters were the girls top runners. Alexis finished less than two seconds (15:15.93) ahead of Ashley's 15:17.68.

The Lady Chucks also had taken places three through six in order of Stephens (16:13), Hackenberry (16:34.08), Milla Rowles (16:34.46) and Gaston (16:39).

Rogers and Pierce wrapped up the Punxsy runners with times of 17:26 and 19:48.

Punxsy runs next at Brookville next Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.
