Punxsy JV softball picks up three wins

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsy's junior varsity softball used a strong pitching performance from Monica Cameron to beat Ligonier Valley 8-2 in a rain shortened, five-inning affair.

Cameron pitched all five innings, striking out two and allowing six hits.

The Lady Chucks (17-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed.

Cameron doubled for one of Punxsy's two extra base hits. Sydney Phillips also tripled. Punxsy scored its eight runs on six hits.

Chelsea Engeholm, Tori Martin, Lauren Ball and Mary Sloniger also had hits. Phillips and Ashley Bacha both scored two twice, while Ball, Savanna Hallman, Cameron and Sarah London also scored for the Lady Chucks.

Punxsy 4, State College 1

PUNXSUTAWNEY— Punxsy's Ashley Bacha struck out 13 batters, and four Lady Chucks had extra-base hits to help lead the Lady Chucks to a 4-1 win over State College last Thursday. Bacha allowed only four hits and one run over seven innings of work, with the Lady Lions run coming in the top of the third.

After allowing the first run, the Lady Chucks tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, before scoring three runs in the fifth to earn the win.

Chelsea Engeholm, Sydney Phillips, Bacha and Mary Sloniger also had doubles for Punxsy.

Phillips, Janie Depp-Hutchinson and Sloniger (two) all scored for the Lady Chucks.

Punxsy 10, Williamsport 0, 5 innings

PUNXSUTAWNEY— Punxsy softball used five triples and a strong offensive showing to stop Williamsport 10-0 in five innings last Tuesday in Punxsy.

Chelsea Engeholm (two), Sydney Phillips, Savanna Hallman and Ashley Walls tripled to help the Lady Chucks score 10 runs on 13 hits.

Ashley Bacha, who had two hits, also pitched a strong five innings for Punxsy, striking out seven batters, while allowing only two hits.
