Punxsy impressive in second defeat of DuBois

August 27, 2012

DUBOIS — For the second time in the early fall season, the Punxsy boys' golfers took care of rival DuBois in impressive fashion, 159-200, on Monday at DuBois Country Club.

The trio of Mike Blose, Brandon Mancuso and Logan Reed continued to pace the Chucks finishers by posting rounds of 38, 39 and 40 on the par 35 front nine holes. Along with the top three finishers, Eli Thompson (42) and Austin Couser (44) gave Punxsy the top five golfers of the day, all hitting under 45.

"I'm really impressed with our score today," pointed out Punxsy head coach Josh Conrad. "We haven't broke 160 in a long time.  It was one of those days where everything worked on almost every shot."

The Chucks (3-1) opened the season a week ago with a 174-222 tally at home over the Beavers.

The eighth hole of the Country Club provided the biggest highlights of the match. Blose and Mancuso both hit 200-plus yard iron shots on the par 5 to hit the green and followed the solid tee shots by two-putting for birdies. Reed drained a 30-foot putt for the team's third birdie on number eight. Mancuso added a second-straight birdie with one on number nine.

"We putted extremely well today to some tough pin locations on greens we're not used to playing," added Conrad. "Everyone's score improved dramatically from our last match."

Austin Milton rounded out the Chucks' performers with a score of 47, the sixth sub-50 score of the team and the seventh best total between the teams.

DuBois' Clayton Reed was the lone sub-50 scorer with a 46. The Beavers saw Justin Rock (50), Steve Jacobson (51), Nic Esposito (53), Alex Jaggi (53) and Adam Powell (55) complete the golfing field.

"Hopefully, we can maintain our confidence and continue winning as school starts and our schedule gets busy," said Conrad.

The challenge of the added school work and busier schedule begins for the Chucks' next outing. Punxsy will head back to DuBois when it faces DuBois Central on Thursday in a 2:30 p.m. start.
