PUNXSUTAWNEY — Members of the Punxsutawney High School Class of 1951 gathered this past weekend at Camp Little Leo to celebrate their 60th reunion.

More than 80 members of the class were present over the two-day celebration.

"The fellowship is really the important thing," reunion co-chairman Bob Bish said Sunday after the luncheon. "You can really see the bond in this class."

The 60th class reunion was dedicated to Margaret C. Boles, an English teacher at PHS who passed away during the class' junior year.

"She was very quiet but helped many people get a degree," reunion co-charman Mel Mitchell said.

Money was raised over the course of the weekend, which will be donated to the Margaret C. Boles Foundation.

According to Bish, who also acts as class treasurer, about $2,500 will be the total class contribution.

"We're the first graduating class that has the variety to fund the foundation," Bish said.

The weekend included a dinner Saturday night and a lunch Sunday afternoon, both catered by Montana's Country Cafe.

Rev. Bish and Rev. Wayne Plyler also held a memorial service Sunday morning for the 69 departed members of the Class of 1951.

Bish and Mitchell were both very pleased with the turnout for the 60th reunion, stating some members of the class had come from as far as California and Florida.

"We were pleased with what we had," Mitchell said. Bish called the weekend "highly successful and enjoyable."
