PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsy's boys' golf team won its second home match of the season with a convincing 165-197 win over Brookville Friday morning at the Punxsutawney Country Club.

The match was played on the front nine holes at the course and was a varsity-only match.

Punxsy's Ian Miller was the low scorer for the tournament, shooting an even-par 37.

Miller had seven pars, bogeyed the par-three seventh and bounced back with a birdie on the par-five eighth.

"Ian had a very solid round," Punxsy head coach Josh Conrad said. "He hit every fairway except for No. 9 and hit every green-in-regulation except the ninth."

Punxsy's second lowest score of the match was shared by Micky DeChurch and Jesse Verdill.

"Jesse played very well today," Conrad said. "It was his best score of the year."

Conrad also added that while DeChurch has been shooting well, his scores just aren't reflecting how well he's actually playing, a commonality in golf, which Conrad called "a fickle game" earlier this season.

Punxsy's fourth, and final, official score belonged to Ryan States, who shot a 44.

Both scores that weren't counted were also competitive, with Logan Reed shooting a 45, just one shot off the pace, and Brandon Mancuso shooting a 47.

"It was good to see that Logan, the only freshman playing varsity today, didn't let the varsity position scare him," Conrad said. "He shot the same score he usually does, and was able to stripe his drive down the fairway on the first hole."

With the win, its second consecutive to open the season, Punxsy is now 2-0.

Brookville was led by Jack Huggins, who shot a 44, and Jacob McLaughlin who scored 47.

Also scoring for Brookville were Tighe Truman, whose 51 was highlighted by a chip-in par on No. 3, and Tate Canavan, who shot a 55.

Owen Clinger, Brookville's fifth and final varsity player, shot a 58.

Punxsy's next match, Monday against DuBois, will be its third consecutive at home.

The Chucks will finish the week with two away matches, Wednesday at Indiana and Thursday at DuBois Central.
