PUNXSUTAWNEY â For the second-straight season, the Punxsutawney Alumni proved too tough against area alumni competition.
The Chucks stuffed the Marion Center Stingers, 28-0, in a complete team effort.
The Punxsy defense forced four turnovers and allowed a meager 24 yards of offense to Marion Center.Â
The defense stuffed the Stingers to a tune of -12 yards rushing on 19 carries including -22 yards on eight tries in the second half while allowing 36 yards through the air.

âIt was a great team effort. What more could you say about these guys,â said Punxsy coach Jimmy Zimmerman (â87).
âThe guys come out and give all they have and put together a great game and shut out.â
After the game, Punxsy had co-MVPâs for the defense named in 2008 graduate Robert Wingert and 2011 graduate Duell Thompson. Marion Center had Matt Jewart as its game MVP.
Thompson led the home defense with two interceptions, including a 76-yarder for a score that was called back to an illegal block on the return and another pass breakup.Â

After the opening drive of each team resulted in punts, Punxsy would put together the first scoring drive on its next possession.
Doty found Dickey down the left side line on the first play for 44 yards down to the visiting 26-yard line.Â
Four plays later, Furman (â08) took the hand-off and swept around the left end and did not stop until the endzone for the 25-yard touchdown.Â
Out of the âWild Chuckâ formation, Furman ran in for the two-point conversion and 8-0 lead at 7:08 in the first quarter.
At the Marion Center three-yard line, Punxsy fumbled to stop its next drive. There was no fumble on the Chucks next possession.Â
Following the third-straight Stingers punt, Punxsy took over on the visiting 20-yard line. Niver took the hand-off on the fourth play for a yard down to the one before Doty plunged straight ahead for the score at 7:57 in the second frame. Furmanâs two-point rush fell short to keep it at 14-0.
Thompson was the thief in the secondary the next two Stinger possessions.
The cornerback returned his first interception 18 yards. On the second, Thompson snatched the ball from the air and took it across the field and down the right side line with a convoy of teammates 76 yards for a touchdown only to have it called back after 11 yards on an illegal block.
Punxsy ran out of time after the second one to keep it at 14-0 at half.
The Punxsy defense continued its dominance to start the third quarter. On 4th-and-11 on the home 46-yard line, Martino and McHenry met at the quarterback for a nine-yard sack.
Taking over at the Stinger 45-yard line, the Chucks drove 25 yards including a 17-yard Thompson run around end.Â

The final points of the day came on the last drive. Furman and Niver had runs of 14 and 15 yards to take the pigskin to the two-yard line. Juart kept the ball on back-to-back quarterback sneaks for a yard apiece for the score with 9.9 seconds for the 28-0 final.Â
