Public Safety Committee warns of scam artists in area

October 10, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough Council’s Public Safety Committee is warning residents to beware of possible scam artists who may be working their way through the area.

Mike Porada, Public Safety Committee chair, said he has received complaints from borough residents about alleged salespeople going around town and asking people if they could come into their house and demonstrate their products.

"There's usually two people, and they're supposed to be demonstrating a vacuum sweeper," Porada said, adding that if anyone approaches a resident about coming into his or her house, the individual should ask to see the required borough permit.
