May 7, 2013

BROOKVILLE — Tonya S. Geist has announced that the Jefferson County Prothonotary & Clerk of Courts Office will be hosting a special passport event this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 200 Main St., Brookville.

“The fair is to provide passport information to the citizens and to accept passport applications for persons who may not be accommodated during regular business hours,” Geist said.

U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air.

U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.

Information on the cost of how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at travel.state.gov.

U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778.

Interested applicants should bring their birth certificates, drivers’ licences and two forms of payment.

Birth certificates must have mother’s and father’s full names.

If you do not have the acceptable form of the birth certificate, visit www.health.state.pa.us/vitalrecords and order a long form birth certificate today.

Download a passport application at www.travel.state.gov, or fill out an application at the fair.

The postage fee will be waived for all regular applications on Passport Fair day.

Questions with regard to the Passport Fair can be addressed by calling 849-1606, during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
