April 5, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough Police continue to search for the suspect in an assault that occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m Thursday along North Jefferson Street in Punxsutawney.

Police are searching for a white male, between the age of 20 and 30, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, who was wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans and possibly operating, or a passenger inside of, a gray vehicle with an unknown registration, said Punxsutawney Borough Police Chief Tom Fedigan.

He said the unidentified male is wanted in connection with an assault, where he allegedly struck a 53-year-old male with a knife or similar sharp object in the back.

Fedigan said the victim was treated at the scene by police and Jefferson County EMS and transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital, where he was flown by emergency medical helicopter. His condition is unknown.

He said the unidentified male fled the scene on foot, traveling in an eastern direction on Torrence Street.

"We've followed a lot of leads and some tips since the incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night," Fedigan said, adding that, at this time, Borough Police have not identified a suspect or a person of interest.
