YOUNG TOWNSHIP — Monday, police identified a Reynoldsville man as the victim in Sunday’s fatal crash at the intersection of Route 536 and Route 36 in Young Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Gary Brian Travis, 48, Reynoldsville, was operating a 2006 Toyota Tacoma when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign on Route 536 and pulled out in front of a 2007 International tractor-trailer driven by Fredrick Rose, 55, Fort Wayne, Ind., which was traveling south on Route 36.

Police said the front end of Rose’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Travis’ vehicle, causing both vehicles to slide south on Route 36, coming to rest along the northbound lane guardrails.

According to police, Travis, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder.

Police said Rose suffered minor injuries and was wearing a seatbelt. Jefferson County EMS transported him to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment.

Following the crash, Route 36 remained closed for several hours in order to remove the vehicles — both of which had sustained major damage —from the scene.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Punxsutawney Fire Department and Rebuck’s South Side Service.
