PUNXSUTAWNEY — A passerby walking along Mahoning Creek saw a car submerged in the water early Tuesday morning.

Punxsutawney Borough Police recovered the late 1990s Cadillac from Mahoning Creek around 1 p.m. Tuesday behind the carnival grounds near the Punxy Plaza.

According to Police Chief Tom Fedigan, the vehicle was discovered by a passerby who was walking on the dike along the creek. The person then notified police.

Fedigan said the car was not stolen, yet was involved in a domestic dispute during which a male took the car and drove it into the creek, which caused it to be submerged over its wheels, early Tuesday.

The male who drove the vehicle into the creek was found to have a warrant for his arrest by Allegheny County authorities on numerous charges. Officers were set to return him to Allegheny County to face charges, Fedigan said.

The Cadillac was pulled from the creek by Rebuck’s South Side Service with assistance from Richard Brown of the Punxsutawney Fire Department’s dive team.

Fedigan said the names of the parties involved would not be released, and there was no further information available at this time.
