Police investigating wreck that sent Punxsy man, 26, to hospital with moderate injuries

July 8, 2014

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a one-vehicle accident that sent Jacob A. Hazlett, 26, Punxsutawney, to the hospital with moderate injuries and also caused minor injuries to his passenger, Dustin R. Passmore, 25, Valier.

Police said the incident occurred at 12:48 a.m. Monday along Route 3008, No. 8 Road.

Hazlett was traveling east along the road when he allegedly failed to negotiate a sharp, left-hand curve.

His 2011 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway, crossed the east berm and traveled approximately 15 feet before striking the guiderail along the east side of No. 8 Road.

Police said the Volkswagen then traveled approximately 35 feet along the guiderail, traveled back across both lanes of travel and the west berm and impacted an embankment before coming to rest blocking both lanes of travel.

Jefferson County EMS transported Hazlett to Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Passmore suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene, according to police.

Police reported that Passmore was wearing a seatbelt, while it is unknown if Hazlett was wearing one.

The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Co. and Rebuck's South Side Service assisted at the scene.
