Police investigating burglary at old Big Run Elementary

BIG RUN — Vandals hit the old Big Run Elementary School building along Route 119, smashing a window, scrawling graffiti in chalk and stealing a knife, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, who are investigating the burglary.

Sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 8, unknown suspected juvenile actor(s) arrived at the building — which a 22-year-old Punxsutawney man is using for storage — and smashed out the basement window with a 3-foot metal pipe.

The actor(s) then traveled throughout all three stories of the building, throwing a glass soda bottle off a second-story chalkboard.

The actor(s) then proceeded up to the third floor of the building and moved around some mattresses and chairs in the lounge area, before using window chalk to write “R CLUB HOUSE” on a wooden door and a window near the lounge area.

Before exiting the building through the smashed basement window, the actor(s) stole a dark blue Cub Scout knife located inside a cardboard box near the lounge area.

Total damage is estimated at $35.
