Police: Flags, veteran memorial rods stolen from cemetery

BELL TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the theft of flags and veteran memorial rods stolen from the Banner Ridge Cemetery in Mahaffey, Clearfield County.

Police said unknown actor(s) removed five U.S. flags — each of which was held with an 18-inch solid brass rod with a plate designating the wars in which the deceased had served, including the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam.

The incident occurred at the cemetery sometime between 7 a.m. Dec. 15 and 7 a.m. Dec. 25.

Police said the rods and markers are valued at $200.
