Police: Deer running onto road causes crash near Park & Ride
YOUNG TOWNSHIP — A deer that ran onto Route 119 in Young Township caused a two-vehicle accident that severely damaged both vehicles at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection with Route 436.
Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police said Joseph Kalynchuk, 51, Troutville, was driving his 2005 Jeep Rubicon north on Route 119 when a deer ran out into his path, causing him to lose control and drive over the deer and into the southbound lane, striking head-on a 2005 Dodge Durango operated by Connie Jordan, 49, of Northpoint.
Police said Kalynchuk’s vehicle rolled over into a field along the western berm and sustained severe damage. Jordan’s vehicle sustained severe damage and became disabled in the southbound lane, police said.
Police noted that both drivers suffered minor injuries, and both vehicles were towed from the scene by Rebuck’s South Side Service.
Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Punxsutawney Fire Department and Jefferson County EMS.
