MARION CENTER — What a difference a year makes.

One year after the Marion Center junior-high wrestling team earned a 54-42 victory in Punxsutawney, the Chucks routed the Stingers Tuesday night, 66-21.

The Chucks (1-1) earned five victories by forfeit over Marion Center, which had just 10 wrestlers. Registering forfeit victories were Kaleb Young (6-0), Stephanie Smith (3-2), Matt Burke (5-1), Troy Peace (5-2) and Andrew Bullers (3-3).

"We earned five forfeits, but for the most part, the kids wrestled well," Punxsy head coach Bill Burke said. "Still lots of room for improvement."

During Tuesday's 10 contested bouts, only one went the decision, when Punxsy seventh-grader Zoie Smith (4-2) suffered a 6-3 defeat. Smith trailed 4-0 during the first period, only to lose by three points.

The other nine bouts resulted in a win by pin, with six of those falls happening in Punxsy's favor.

After the Chucks fell behind 6-0 when Ryan Jones (3-3) was pinned by Marion Center's Isaac Stewart in 1:12, Punxsy earned three-straight forfeit wins. Punxsy's 18-6 advantage quickly grew to 48-6 after five-straight wins by fall.

Jaydon Grusky earned a fall over Tyler Helman in 70 seconds to improve to 5-0 on the season, and Perry Arrington is now 5-1 after pinning Jacob Richardson in 3:23.

The wins by pin continued when Logan Rend (3-3) bested Blake Orr in 45 seconds, Jeff Bottenhorn (2-4) took out Matt Ferringer in 2:22, and Keegan Fischer (5-1) pinned Dylan Branan in 3:35.

Fischer trailed 5-2 after the first period, but came back to win by fall.

Punxsy's final win of the night occurred when Eli Lambiotte (3-2) pinned David Wiles during the third period.

"I was most impressed with Keegan Fischer's and Eli Lambiotte's performances," Burke said. "Keegan had a nice comeback win, and Eli wrestled well, especially on top. He has a killer cradle."

Punxsy's other losses by fall came from Chad Barnes (0-5) and Austin Covatch (0-7) — both during the first period.

There were no contests at 75, 85 and 250 pounds.

The Chucks will visit Clearfield for a 5 p.m. start Wednesday.
