Philena S. (Chappell) Stebbins, 100

Mrs. Philena S. (Chappell) Stebbins, 100, of Indiana, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012.

She was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Belvedere, N.C., the daughter of Carrie and Emma Frances Chappell.

Attending Nyack College, Nyack, N.Y. in 1929, Philena met her late husband, Rev. John E. Stebbins Sr., and together they ministered for some 50 years in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches, with 42 of those years at Mahaffey and Burnside, Pa.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Charles A. (Louise) Davis of Strongsville, Ohio, their children, Rev. Charles A. and Ingrid Davis III, Ph.D. of Greenwich, Conn., and three children, Christian, Linnea and Jordan, and Dr. Glenn A. and Judith (Davis) Harris Jr. M.D. of Waynesville, N.C.; son John E. Stebbins Jr. of Ferrum, Va., his children, John E. Stebbins III of Arlington, Va., and Mr. John and Sherri Stebbins Hill of Roanoke, Va.; and son Richard D. and Diane Stebbins of Glen Campbell, Pa., their children, Mark R. and Tina Stebbins of Glen Campbell, Pa., and two children, Ashley and Cody, Matthew E. Stebbins of Hillsdale, Pa.,d and Dr. Nathan C. and Kerri Stebbins O.D. of Punxsutawney.

Philena was one of 13 children.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters, while a brother and a sister survive.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. Hillsdale, Pa.

Services will also be held at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, with viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Pastor William G. Murphy of the Indiana Alliance Church will officiate.
Interment will be in the Rowley Cemetery, Hillsdale, Pa.
