PennDOT: Work to begin Monday on Route 119 Elk Run Bridge in Jefferson Co.

March 15, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Residents of Punxsutawney and motorists who travel on Route 119 will benefit by the replacement of the bridge carrying Route 119 over Elk Run in Jefferson County.

This structurally deficient bridge was built in 1929 and carries 11,607 vehicles per day.

Beginning the week of March 18, daylight flagging operations will be in place on Route 119 between Clark Street and Orchard Street. Congestion and delays are possible in the work zone area; please be patient and allow extra time for your travel.

The project includes the replacement of the bridge on Route 119 and roadway improvements at the intersection of Routes 119 and 310, including left turn lanes.

PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert to changing conditions and to pay attention to flaggers in the work zone.

Remember fines are doubled; drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.

This $3,354,600 bridge replacement and roadway improvement project is being constructed by Francis J. Palo, Inc., of Clarion, and is expected to be completed before the end of September.
