Pearl M. Grove, 83

Pearl M. Grove, 83, Rossiter, formerly of Allegany, N.Y., died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at home.

She was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Creekside, a daughter of the late Gaskell and Gladys (Leksell) Travis.

Jan. 9, 1947, she married Robert J. Grove, who preceded her in death March 6, 1998.

Mrs. Grove was a member of the Presbyterian Church, which she cleaned for many years, in Rossiter.

She was also a member of the Charles Harbel Allegany American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 892; the Emergency Management team for Indiana County; fire police of the Rossiter Volunteer Fire Department, of which she was a lifetime member; and a social member of the Rossiter Legion Post No. 582.

Mrs. Grove was a past tax assessor for Canoe Township; auditor for Canoe Township; and past Relief Association treasurer for the Rossiter Volunteer Fire Deptartment.

She was employed by the former Acme Electric in Allegany, N.Y. She also kept score at many racetracks in Pennsylvania and New York, where she was a Powderpuff driver.

An avid bingo player, Mrs. Grove enjoyed going to the casino and liked playing Holding. She also loved camping at the Rocky Top campgrounds.
She was an avid hunter, and enjoyed hunting with her son-in-law, Matt.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Virginia (Jeanie) Reeder of Rossiter, and Cathy Lippert and husband Matthew of Allegany; two sons, Robert Grove Jr. of Rossiter, and Edward Grove and wife Theresa of Allegany; nine brothers and sisters, William Travis and wife Gloria, Mary Ann Pierce and husband Harry, Charles Travis, Bertha Mumau, Fred Travis and wife Jean, Rodney Travis and wife Leona, Robert Travis and wife Linda, Shirey Conrad and Walter Travis and wife Edie; 12 grandchildren, Dennis Frazier and wife Jessica, Tonya Shirey and husband Lance, Troy Fredrick and wife Beth, Missy Dennis and husband Eddy, Matthew Lippert and wife Jeanne, Stephen Lippert, Lacey Grove, Amber Grove, Cody Grove, Marcus Grove, Robert J. Grove III and James Grove and wife Julie; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra and Melinda Grove; four brothers, Paul, Clarence, David and Nolan Travis; and a sister, Opal Jane Travis.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Grove officiating.

Interment will be at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

The family has suggested that memorials in Mrs. Grove's name be made to the Indiana County Hospice.
