HERSHEY — Punxsy underclassmen Tim Pearce and Mike Blose lost for the first time as a tandem this year during the PIAA Class AAA Boys' Tennis Doubles Championships Friday in Hershey.

Pearce and Blose, who improved to 11-0 on the season when they won the District IX title last week, lost to Manheim Township juniors David Musser and Andrew Moshos, 6-0, 6-2.

Punxsy head coach Todd Heigley said the experience will be great for the kids in the future. Pearce, a junior, has one season left, and Blose, a sophomore, has two.

"They were a little upset at the end, and that's kind of good because they know where they need to be to play at the next level," Heigley said. "We just have to bring the level of District IX tennis up and hopefully set a bar for the future."

Heigley said that Pearce and Blose reached advantage-in twice in the first set and three times in the second set. They were also ahead 40-30 and 30-15 at times, but could capitalize on their leads only twice with a pair of game wins during the second set.

"We had leads, but couldn't string together enough points to win enough games," Heigley said. "We played at a really good pace. The kids that we played really weren't that overpowering, but we left a lot of points on the court."

Heigley said that his players wouldn't admit they were nervous during the first set, but he said that you could tell that they were nervous. The Chucks began to calm down during the second set, but couldn't score again once they were behind 4-2.

"They can only go up from this. Even though it was a loss, it was a big, positive experience for them," Heigley said. "It was really a joy to get to even watch them down there. They put together some of their own rallies and points, and it wasn't like they got blanked."
