INDIANA — Trevor Peace powered the Punxsy boys’ soccer team to its first victory of the season on Saturday. Peace assisted on two scores and blasted two goals of his own to defeat DuBois, 4-2, in the second day of the Indiana Tournament.

Host Indiana claimed a 2-0 win over Punxsy in the season opener Friday.

After a Beavers' goal just under six minutes into the contest, the Chucks’ Kevin Hughes netted the first goal of the year at 31:57 off a pass from Peace for a 1-1 halftime score.

Hughes put Punxsy ahead with his second tally at 56:05 from another Peace pass. Peace would put the match away with two long-range blasts. The first Peace boot came off a direct kick 45 yards away at 62:04 before booting an even longer 50-yard goal coming at 69:58. DuBois added a late score to make it a 4-2 final.

“It was a great game between the teams. We were pleased to come out on top,” said Chucks’ head coach Phil Shenkle. “It was a great win against a quality DuBois team.”

On Friday night in the opener, Punxsy was unable to find the back of the net.

After a scoreless first half, Punxsy was called for intentionally handling the ball to stop a goal and was called for a red card at 44:07. Indiana took advantage of the penalty kick, and Mason Lockard made it 1-0 Little Indians.

The Chucks played with only 10 players the rest of the way.

Dalton Bright added a second Indiana goal at the 65:10 mark for the 2-0 result.

Punxsy will stay on the road for a 4 p.m. start at DuBois Central today.
