Peace Blooms on Plantation Bed & Breakfast
Plantation B&B is June’s “Garden of the Month”
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The winner of the June "Garden of the Month" is Julie Branken's Plantation Bed & Breakfast along Route 119, just south of Punxsutawney.
"I love the plants, but I never research, or I'm (not) one of those people who go and learn about what flower goes where," she said. "I just do what I feel."
Arriving from South Africa more than 13 years ago, Branken moved into where the plantation is now and started to "fix the place up."
"When I first got here, there used to be a tennis court where the meditation garden is now with brush and weeds everywhere," she said.
The stone wall was already in place prior to Branken's arrival. She then added a stone fountain, bearing a quote her mother always believed in to add to the feel of peacefulness.
The sign reads, "The kiss of the sun for pardon ... The song of a bird for mirth ... You're nearer God's heart in the garden ... Than anywhere else on earth."
Branken's mother always shared stories with her about being a young child in England and dancing and singing this quote.
"The sign was one of the first things I put into the meditation garden when I arrived here," she said.
With all the different types of plant life and flowers, the Plantation Bed & Breakfast is a easy spot to unwind and take in God's creations.
