Pauline Strano Ferraro, 98

Pauline Strano Ferraro, 98, Punxsutawney, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born May 28, 1913, in Byrnedale, Elk County, a daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine Strano.

In 1935, she married Pasquale “Pat” Ferraro, who preceded her in death April 26, 2004.

She grew up in Punxsutawney and moved to Brookville, where she lived for 54 years.

She then moved back to Punxsutawney, where she has been a resident since 1989, and she wintered in Port Charlotte, Fla., for many years.

She is Roman Catholic by faith and a member of the Immaculate Conception parish of Brookville, and since her return to Punxsutawney, a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Church.nFor many years, she was a member of the Rosary Society in both Brookville and Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Ferraro volunteered for many years in various organizations in Brookville. She was a lifetime member of the Brookville Hospital Auxiliary.

Since moving to Punxsutawney, she has been an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Rita No. 353.

Mrs. Ferraro loved to travel and enjoyed knitting, sewing, needlework, cooking and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include a son, Joseph Ferraro of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a daughter, Amelia Stengel of Laurel, Md.; five grandchildren, Joseph Ferraro, Beth Ann Andrews, Brian Stengel and wife Sandra, Victoria Sylvain and husband Gregory, and Elaine Stengel; eight great-grandchildren, Conner Andrews, Colin Ferraro, Delaney, Jenna and Alexa Stengel, and Andrew, Mitchell and Matthew Sylvain; two sisters, Nina Nase of Pittsburgh and Mary Jane Atheide of Tonawanda, N.Y.; and two brothers, Angelo Strano of Punxsutawney and Andrew Strano of Rochester, N.Y.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Samuel, James, Peter and Richard; and four sisters, Paula, Maria, Nicole and Connie.

Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Ss. Cosmas & Damian Church with the Rev. Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Ferraro, be made to the SS.C.D. school.
