Paul E. Kennis, 85, Sykesville, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at DRMC after a short illness.

He was born June 29, 1926, in Sykesville, a son of the late Peter and Mary (Gilga) Kennis.

He was married to Ruth (Zimmerman) Kennis, who preceded him in death in 2007.

Mr. Kennis attended Sykesville School and was self-employed as a farmer.

He attended the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville and was a member of Knights of Columbus of DuBois, the Sykesville Fire Department and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.

Mr. Kennis lived in the area all of his life.

Surviving relatives include four children, Patty Gresock and husband Mark of Soldier, Ron Kennis and wife Marge of Sykesville, Dan Kennis and wife Mona of Reynoldsville and Cheryl Duttry of Sykesville; two brothers, Peter G. Kennis Jr. of R.D. DuBois and John R. Kennis and wife Oramae of R.D. Punxutawney; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Michael; and two sisters, Mary Zimmerman and Margaret I. Kennis.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and a family Parastas will be held at 9 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home, Sykesville.

Panachida will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, and Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church with Fr. John Mihalco officiating.

Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery, Sykesville
