Parnell Grant Reed, 89

Parnell Grant Reed, 89, Punxsutawney, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at DRMC, DuBois.

He was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Timblin, a son of the late Robert and Leona (Wonderling) Reed.

Dec. 24, 1941, he married Iona Grace (Hawk) Reed, who preceded him in death Dec. 25, 2007. They were married for 66 years.

Mr. Reed worked in the coal mines in the early part of their marriage, and was then employed by the B&O and the C&O railroads as a brakeman until his retirement after 38 years of service.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist church and an active participant at the Older American Senior Center. He was also a member of the Grace Gigglers Relay For Life Team.

Surviving relatives include his sons, Harold “Tink” Reed and wife Pat of Brookville, and Daniel Reed and wife Barb of Clearfield; a daughter, Kathi States and husband Dave of Punxsutawney; nine grandchildren, Peggy Jo Reed, Darla Kinnan, Kevin Reed and wife Kelly, Lee Ann Fetterhoff and husband Tim, Dr. Tracy Reed-Kessler and husband John, Robyn Shaffer and husband Eric, James Reed, Tina Gianvito, and Brandy Johnston and husband Doug; 13 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William P. “Bill” Reed; two grandsons, Ricky Kinnan and Grant Hill; and three sisters, Olive Unsworth, Pat Fucille and June Alsop.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Alfred Kimmel officiating.

Interment will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 61 Hillcrest Dr., Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767; the Grace Gigglers Relay Team; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
