PAHS welcomes 18 new members to National Honor Society
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area High School chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 18 new members — four seniors and 11 juniors — during a ceremony held Thursday at the high school.
The new members bring the total number of students in the PAHS chapter to 34.
Kaitlyn Cressley, NHS historian, gave a brief explanation of the group’s history and foundation. The other four officers — Cassandra Cook, president, Tori Brooks, vice-president; Kelsey Young, secretary, Sarajane Depp-Hutchinson, treasurer, and top NHS scholar, Sierra Milton — explained the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, leadership, service and character.
From there, new members lit candles during the lighting and recognition ceremony.
The new members then recited the NHS Oath.
After that, Alex Voris performed “This is the Moment.”
Principal David London then made closing remarks and congratulated the new members on their induction.
In order to be inducted into the National Honor Society, a student must maintain a high academic standard with an average of 95 or above.
