COOLSPRING — A Worthville man suffered major injuries when his pickup truck was struck by a flatbed truck as he attempted to cross the intersection of Coolspring Road and Route 36 at 10:55 a.m. Friday in Coolspring, Oliver Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Larry Harp, 64, of Worthville, came to a posted stop sign at the intersection of Coolspring Road and Route 36, and Harp was attempting to drive straight across Route 36 onto River Road.

Police said a 2012 Peterbilt flatbed truck driven by Michael P. Smith, 46, of Ford City, was traveling south on Route 36 and struck Harp's vehicle as it pulled onto Route 36 in the southbound lane.

According to police, the front of Smith's vehicle struck (T-boned) the passenger side of Harp's vehicle.

Harp was not wearing a seatbelt and was flown from the scene by Stat MedEvac to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of major injuries, police said, adding that he will be cited at the District Magistrate for failure to perform duties at stop signs and failure to use a restraint system.

Police were assisted at the scene by Jefferson County EMS and the Oliver Township Volunteer Fire Company, where Harp had been a member and a former chief.
