PUNXSUTAWNEY — A two-vehicle accident that occurred at noon Friday along Route 36/North Main Street sent a Punxsy woman to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

According to Punxsutawney Borough Police, Erika Berringer, Brookville, was driving a Dodge Durango south on North Main Street when she was unable to stop when her brakes locked up, and she struck the rear of a Chevrolet Cavalier stopped in front of her driven by Bill Williams.

Police said a passenger in Williams’ vehicle, Denise Williams, was injured in the crash and was transported by Jefferson County EMS to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Williams was able to drive his vehicle from the scene, while Berringer’s vehicle was towed by Rebuck’s South Side Service.

Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Lindsey Fire Company.
