PUNXSUTAWNEY — Oktober Fest in Punxsutawney is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

Oktober Fest is the last of the 2012 Second Saturday events PRIDE has coordinated in the downtown.

It will take place, rain or shine, and will feature activities for all ages.

Events for the day include “Pick a Pumpkin” discounts at participating stores and sidewalk sales by a variety of vendors.

A Pumpkin Story Walk will take place on the sidewalk of South Findley Street between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The walk will include reading a book and activities related to the story. Children through age 12 completing the walk will select a paperback book of their choice to keep.

In case of rain, the walk will move to the Lattimer House of the Punxsutawney Historical and Genealogical Society at 400 West Mahoning St.

The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center will feature “make a weather mask” for visitors throughout the day.

Ice carving will be demonstrated by students at the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts.

At 1 p.m., judging will take place for a Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest open to those age 12 and over. The contest will be at the gazebo and, in case of rain, at Miller Brothers Furniture Store.

A panel of impartial, highly qualified judges will award prizes for the best pumpkin pies.
