PUNXSUTAWNEY— Punxsutawney's junior varsity softball team used its powerful offensive attack to beat Curwensville 16-1 in four innings last Friday.

Seven Lady Chucks combined for 11 hits, and three batters had multiple hits.

Sarah London (three), Madison Neal (two) and Sydney Phillips (two) had more than one hit.

Savanna Hallman, Stephanie Smith, Sydney Weaver and Lauren Wolfe also had hits.

Two of London's three hits were doubles.

Punxsy coach Ken Covatch was pleased with Phillips effort.

"Sydney Phillips provided leadership offensively and defensively," Covatch said. "(She had) one double and commanded her infield, calling a great game from behind the plate."

Hallman was one-for-two at the plate, but stole home early in the game and finished with four stolen bases.

Punxsy took a 4-0 lead after the first inning and added two runs in the second, eight in the third and two in the fourth.

Phillips (three), Hallman (three), London (two), Ashley Bacha, Smith, Sydney Weaver, Madison Neal, Kate Cressley, Ashley Reitz, Wolfe and Mary Sloniger all scored runs for the Chucks.

Covatach said that Smith contributed well on both sides of the ball.

"Steph Smith did an outstanding job defensively in right field with two spectacular catches," Covatch said.

Curwensville scored its lone run in the top of the third inning.

Sarah London pitched a complete game for the Lady Chucks, striking out a batter.

"Sarah London pitched a solid game," Covatch said. "She also doubled twice."
