Odessa Mae Hutchinson, 94

Odessa Mae Hutchinson, 94, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Mulberry Square.

She was born July 10, 1919, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late William and Carrie Irene (Harvey) Hodgson.

On March 3, 1945. she married Harold "Red" Quentin Hutchinson.

She and her husband loved to dance with one another. They traveled all over to dance together to Big Band music.

He preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1991.

"Dessie" was fondly known by many people as "the kind, white-haired lady at Dr. Johnston's dental office,” where she had worked over 16 years.

She was a very unselfish person, putting everyone before herself, and she never had an unkind word for anyone.

Odessa loved her family above all and was born to be a Grandma. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly.

She was a Penn State football fan.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy L. Neal and husband David of
Smicksburg, and Vicki Homan and husband Jack of Marchand; grandchildren Dr. Matthew Neal, Jeremy Neal and Chris, Michael, Steven and Kari Homan; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Jane Binney and husband Jack of State College.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Ralph, Theodore and Lloyd Hodgson; and three sisters, Viola Graybill, Ada Belle Yanni and Carrie Irene Brown.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Bob Bish.

Interment will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Township, Jefferson County.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Hutchinson's memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
