September 6, 2013

Norman Samuel Scava, 85, of Hudson, Ohio, was taken home on Aug. 17, 2013, to join his wife, Doris, for eternity.

Sam was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late LuCille and Samuel Scava.

He was married to Doris Foster, who preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2011.

Sam was known as "Skip" to his friends.

He attended Punxsutawney High School, where he was a four-sport athlete. Upon graduation, he attended Thiel College, where he met his wife, Doris.

While at Thiel, he was the quarterback of the school's first undefeated football team, which earned his membership in the Thiel College Athletic Hall of Fame.

After college, he served in the military as a United States Navy pilot, flying as a submarine hunter between Cuba and Florida. Upon discharge from the Navy, he was employed by McKesson & Robbins Pharmaceutical Company until his retirement.

In his retirement years, he volunteered his time delivering Meals on Wheels and assisting as a track coach at Tallmadge High School.

Surviving relatives who cherish his memory include his son, Randy and wife Connie of Wadsworth, Ohio; a daughter, Leslie Scava of Cleveland, Ohio; granddaughters Rachel and Sarah Scava; his sister, Betty Lou Depp of Punxsutawney; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of Adams Mason Funeral Home and
Crematory, with interment at the Ohio Western National Reservel Cemetary.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
