Noribel Z. Geesey, 96

Noribel Z. Geesey, 96, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at The Winds at Mattern Orchard.

She was born May 10, 1914, in Big Run, a daughter of the late David A. and Mae (Bush) Zufall.

July 17, 1937, she married Scott S. Geesey, who preceded her in death in 1977.

Mrs. Geesey was a 1931 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and attended Penn State University. She was a 1935 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and attended the University of Wisconsin for her master’s degree. She retired as a teacher from the Altoona Area School District and also taught in the Brockway School District and Blairsville School District.

She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, Altoona (formerly First Presbyterian Church), since 1948. She was also a member of the Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library, the Altoona Navy League, the American Association of University Women, Friends of the Altoona Symphony, the Blair County Republican Women and the Reserve Officer Auxiliary Ladies.

Mrs. Geesey enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and her family.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Scott S. Geesey Jr. and wife Ellen of Richmond, Va., and R. Geoffrey Geesey and wife Patricia of Duncansville; a daughter, Cynthia Rosenberger and husband Lee of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren, Elena Geesey, Kimberly Rosenberger, Laurie Burke and Kristina Geesey; three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Lynda Byars and Ashlin Burke; and two sisters, Nancy L. Lego of Hollidaysburg and Frances Ely of Wickenberg, Ariz.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Alene Clark, Ellen Anne Verdill and Catherine Hall.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Stevens Mortuary Inc., Eighth Avenue, Altoona.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at the Stevens Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jean Martin officiating.

Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
